TRAVELING CURRICULUM
This Spanish with traveller soul and capacities to capture the reality of the places he visits, begun his walking around the world and his photographer career more than 10 years ago. First he made short trips around Europe, later he moved to Ireland, and in 1998, his first great travelling experience: backpacking through Canada without much money to cross the country hitchhiking from East to West, and from South to North, from Toronto to Vancouver, to the eskimo town of Inuvik. This trip produced spectacular snapshots: landscapes, steppes, animals, the perennial light in the sky of the Arctic Circle.

With the chance of carrying out more adventures, new restlessness and new photographic challenges arrived. Every time the places and the landscapes lost first place and their people, their culture, their customs took more relevance in his pictures. With this new way of seeing the world he travelled to South Africa, Algeria, New Zealand and Peru.
But it was when one of his dreams became true when his photography became more anthropological. A trip of almost a year, in which Jorge crosses India, Nepal and its summits, Australia, the heavenly Fiji islands and Southeast Asia; the charm of Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and its luxuries, or the unexpected natural beauty of Vietnam. His camera is witness during this time not only of which one can see at plain sight. Through the images of this trip we listened to the laughter of the children playing in a river, we perceived the efforts of fishermen collecting a fishing net, the scents of a market, those of soaps in the bathtubs or the ones of the sacred Ganges.
After a brief stay in the United Arab Emirates, stay that Jorge profits to visit Yemen, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain. He returns again to Spain, to fulfil another of his dreams: to trek along the Pyrenees for almost 40 days. A trek from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic of about 750 Kilometers in one go.
A possible business related to tourism, again guides his steps towards Peru. The travelling instinct makes him forget the enterprise and decides to travel around South America for a few months. To this trip correspond the images of Bajo la Cruz del Sur.
In Peru, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay or Brazil he shots the most beautiful landscapes of the four corners of the continent: Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica, the Iguazu waterfalls or the Pantanal.
Between May and July 2007, Jorge Fernandez returns to face the challenge to trek again The Pyrenees mountain range, this time in an loop around the paths that join the Mediterranean sea and the Atlantic ocean on both sides. A trip of almost 1600 km following the GR-11 on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees and returning again to the Mediterranean by the French GR-10. This adventure could be followed daily in the www.pirineos.com. Site to which Jorge sent a chronicle with the images of the day. As a result of this collaboration appeared the book: A dream in my pocket. The tour around the Pyrenees in 80 days; published by Infopirineo. Book that gather Jorge’s experiences during three months of solitude, hard work and exposure to the weather.
From October 2007 and for over 14 months Jorge went on a photographic journey following the old Silk Road, travelling always with the feet in the ground, from Venice to Mongolia crossing eastern Europe, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia and China to get to Mongolia and to return with the Transiberian by Russia, and again Baltic states and eastern Europe.
Nowadays Jorge Fernandez combines his job as a photography teacher with his passion for travelling working as a tour leader in Africa.
His next project is to travel to Indonesia and Japan on a one year trip to experience again the travelling bug, and to keep on working on his anthropological archive.
